Lemtyugov signs on for Steelers
The Sheffield Steelers confirmed that Russian striker Nikolai Lemtyugov had signed for the club, as revealed exclusively by British ice hockey two weeks ago.
The 33-year-old winger becomes the club's first Russian player after agreeing to come to the UK for any KHL interest.
Steelers coach, Aaron Fox, is aware of his career since he coached it in Croatia with the EBEL club, Medvescak Zagreb, last season .
"I had it with me for a while last year and we could see that his level of talent was at another level and that it was after missing a prolonged time at because of an injury, "said the boss of the Steelers.
"He spent a whole season out of season and will be ready to camp. He played a lot of things with John Armstrong last year, so it's nice to have someone he knows here too. "
As we have revealed, Lemtyugov has more than 400 experience matches in the KHL, between the regular season and the play-offs, as well as just under 100 games in the LAH, disputed with Peoria Rivermen.
He spent last season in Zagreb before seeing the campaign in South Korea with Anyang Halla in the Asian League.
The signing is another major statement as Sheffield seeks to return to the top spots after finishing mid-table last season.
And Fox talked about what his former winger will bring to his new club when the season kicks off next month.
He added: "Nikolai is an extremely talented high-level striker who should change the game for us.
"He can play a physical game when needed and is very strong on ozone pucks. He can play in both positions and is also very good on the power play.
"His English is pretty good and has a lot of character in the locker room. We actually signed it a few weeks ago, but with an exclusion clause of the KHL, which was passed, it commits 100% to the Steelers . "
