Cardiff Devils goaltender Ben Bowns named EIHL player of the week
Cardiff Devils goaltender Ben Bowns has been named Elite League Player of the Week for the period ending October 1, 2017.
Bowns recorded two consecutive shutouts for the Devils to help the defending champions of the Elite League get rid of a series of two-game defeats and create some momentum before their clash with Växjö Laker Tuesday.
Cardiff beat the Dundee Stars 4-0 at the Dundee Arena on Wednesday, Sept. 27, as Bowns dismissed 23 shots in the win.
The 26-year-old athlete then chained with another 23-stop performance to defeat Braehead Clan at Ice Arena Wales on Saturday as the Devils skated with a 5-0 win over their Scottish rivals.
"Obviously, it's nice to have a blank game at any moment, but the return is even more enjoyable." Bowns said
"The guys were unreal in front of me, all the rebounds were put in a box and we did not give any side chances. That made my job a lot easier than it could have been , especially in relation to other white games. "
Bowns is now in his fourth season with the Devils, and Team GB number one believes that clubs' ability to keep their core together year after year is a major factor in their success.
"It's huge," he said.
"It's good to get into a new season and not have to know your players, especially the defensive core. This year it was only Bryce Reddick and Drew Paris who were really new, and these guys immediately adapted.
"It makes a big difference, it makes your life so much easier to get back to where you left off."
