GB edge Romania in Olympic opener

A late goal from Alpar Sallo's Romania made the last minutes a nervous affair, but Great Britain was keen to take the points in their first Olympic Winter Qualification.
The crowd at Motorpoint Arena was happy in the end as Pete Russell's team won against a Romanian team who gave a good self-report, but who didn’t Was not successful.
It was an action-packed first period that saw GB get ahead in the first 20 minutes, taking advantage of their chances to give them the edge over the Romanians.
However, it was the visitors who opened the scoring after 14 minutes when Anton Butochnov set up Vitali Kirkchenko, who delivered a low score to beat Ben Bowns.
La Romania didn’t take the lead it won’t last long because GB shot the level 50 seconds later while Dallas Ehrhardt blew one just inside the blue line and he flew over the Romanian goalkeeper Patrik Polc.
GB added it shortly after with Ehrhardt, who set up Robert Farmer, who leaned on one knee to deliver the bottom of the face-off circle and Pete Russell's men were in the lead at the first break.
Daniel Tranca pulled the level of the Romanians halfway with something of an opportunistic effort from the right wing on the blue line that left Bowns well beaten.
The British didn't let things stay that way for too long, Matthew Myers of Cardiff finished one a few minutes later from the slot and the lead was restored.
Brendan Connolly opened his GB account when he started when # 39; he was in the right position to complete a slight reduction from Ben Lake from behind the goal line and the lead was increased to 4-2.
The two sides had chances in the third, but Sallo was the one who found the back of the net late to organize a tense final, but GB held on.
Earlier in the day, Hungary opened their campaign with a 4-1 victory over Estonia as they occupied the top of the standings after the first day.
GB is back in action on Saturday when he will face Estonia in his second match.
