GB under 20s defeat Spain in penalty shootout
The U20s of Great Britain stayed in search of medals as they defeated the U20s of Spain 4-3 after an exciting shootout in the U20 world championship , division II, group A in Vilnius.
After GB took a three-goal lead, Spain scored three goals in seven minutes to tie the game in the second intermission. During the shooting, Tyler Perre was not beaten by any of the four attempts on him while GB grabbed the additional point.
Alex Graham got the finishing touches on Tyler Cooper's shot from the left circle to advance GB with the only goal in the first period (8:10).
GB scored twice in 70 seconds in the second session while Zach Milton broke two against one and scored from the left circle (23:34), while an excellent Cade Neilson skate installs Cooper at the backdoor on the power play (24:44).
Spain withdrew a goal with Marc Layola's lap and shot from the left circle (26:51) and Oscar Rubio cut inside the right to make it a match at a goal (35:17), while Layola's beautiful solo goal leveled the scores (39:29).
After a third scoreless period and extra time, Alderson, Biddulph and Milton scored in the shootout while GB claimed their third straight victory.
GB will play its last match on Sunday against Serbia at 12 noon (10.00 am UK time).
