Big stars coming out for Venus
Coventry Blaze Ross Venus admits that he is living his dream as he prepares to mark ten years at the club with his testimony.
Heroes from the past and present will be at the Skydome tonight to pay homage to Venus as he celebrates his decade there.
And the 25-year-old looked back on his early days there as he made his way into professional ice hockey.
"I remember coming for my first day with my father at the age of 16 and I remember that he was perhaps more excited than I was when I signed for the first time, "said Venus.
"At this point, you don't think that far and I just wanted to play hockey and things went well for me.
"I come from Solihull and I & # I used to come and see the Barons when I started playing, I moved to Coventry when I was 10 or 11 years old and I started going to the Blaze games.
"It’s the stuff of dreams in many ways and it’s the same for David Clements, who is from Coventry. It’s at that time the team was in trouble for the titles, with Adam Calder playing and doing what he did. We would idolize guys like that and now here we are. "
One who's who in Blaze's history will be there to help celebrate Venus' success with former coach Paul Thompson joining current coach Danny Stewart and other names legendary for the huge event.
Venus spoke of the players he returns, revealing why he asked them to return.
He added: "There are a few big names coming back – British legends as well as imports, including from the 2015 playoff winning team, so it will be nice to meet them.
"I played in the testimony of Russell Cowley and Matt Soderstrom, so that gave me a good idea of what was going on in an event like this and the planning involved.
“Returning players like Greg Owen, Ashley Tait and Cowley, they all had influence about me and my career as a young player to come, especially being British and wanting to play for GB.
"Ryan O & # 39; Marra was another one who helped me a lot and we played together on a line for a few months this season and we clicked with Steven Goertzen, so it will be great to review these guys.
"I'm really excited. This is a great opportunity to be in the same club for ten years and it will be great to bring everyone together. It's going to be an incredible night.
"Everything is ready to go and we also have the beers and I hope everyone has a good night and enjoy it.
"It means a lot to me and I am sure it will sink properly when this happens. I have been in this club for a long time and I am happy to to be here and thankful for this opportunity. "
